In October of 2017, I met an ambitious, charming and sexy man through a dating app.
Everything he surrounded himself with was manicured, intentional and designed to give him freedom.
His praise and attention toward me made me feel like a valued and special addition to his life.
Confidential Victim is a deep dive of my journey in reporting and healing from sexual assault. This documentation will follow me through the thrill of a new relationship, the devastation of becoming a victim to my partner, the aftermath of reporting and my complex emotional response .
About 30% of estimated incidents of sexual assault in the United States are reported to police. Less than 6% of suspects are arrested, and far less than 2% are referred to a prosecutor. At this rate of decomposition, justice seems like a myth.
This documentation of my experience is to ensure that my story is not forgotten.
I hope that it will provide women like me with insight and relief that their experience with sexual assault is not to be minimized, shamed or overlooked. It is never your fault. You are deserving of justice.
